Naiyma Martin was born in Honolulu, Hawaii but has lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico since the age of two. She is currently a senior undergraduate student at the University of New Mexico studying biology, with the hopes of becoming a physician. She wishes to focus future work on the intersection of rural primary care and reproductive health inequities, substance use, poverty and trauma. Martin is nearing completion of her Community Health Worker certification, in addition to a Lactation Counselor certification, as well as training to become a doula. She currently works at the Mind Research Network as a Research Assistant/Analyst, where she collects EEG data on infant populations across New Mexico. In her free time, she can be found bird watching, reading or baking for loved ones.
