Why is Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Week Important?

While breastfeeding is traditionally a common practice in most of the Asian countries, Asian American women have shown to introduce foods other than mother’s milk to their infants earlier than any other ethnic group, according to study. API Breastfeeding Task Force recognizes the unique cultural and education needs of AANHPI parents, and seek to reclaim the tradition of breastfeeding.
